Team Canada Names Cyclist Tara Whitten as Closing Ceremony Flagbearer
Commonwealth Games Canada (CGC) and Cycling Canada are proud to announce that cyclist and quadruple Games medallist, Tara Whitten (Edmonton, AB), has been named Team Canada’s Flag Bearer for the closing ceremony at the XIXth Commonwealth Games. The announcement was made today at Team Canada’s Closing Press Conference at the Main Press Centre in Delhi, India. October 14, 2010
Whitten Caps off Competition in Delhi with Gold
After three bronze medals in the track cycling competition at the Commonwealth Games, Tara Whitten of Edmonton has crowned her competition here in Delhi with a gold medal. On a day when the temperature on the pavement was over 40 degrees, Whitten captured first place in the final road event, the 29km individual time trial. For this event, riders race individually against the clock, starting at one-minute intervals. October 13, 2010
Jennifer Abel caps great Commonwealth Games for Canadian divers with silver
The future of Canadian diving appears to be in secure hands with Jennifer Abel of Laval, Que. Abel, 19, collected her third medal Wednesday at the Commonwealth Games earning the silver on women’s three-metre springboard. Sharleen Stratton of Australia won the gold medal with 376.00 points, Abel followed at 338.55 and Jaele Patrick of Australia was third at 326.16. Abel, an Olympic team member in 2008, also won gold this week on one-metre and three-metre synchro with Emilie Heymans of St-Lambert, Que. October 13, 2010
Delhi Games provide unique apprenticeship opportunity for female Canadian coaches
Along with celebrating top athletic achievement, the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games have been an extraordinary growth experience for two of Canada’s most promising female coaches. Table Tennis coach, Junya Chen (Mississauga, ON), and Athletics coach, Christine Laverty (Calgary, AB), have been working with their respective national teams in Delhi through a partnership between Commonwealth Games Canada and the Coaching Association of Canada’s Women in Coaching Program. Canada's Rhythmic Gymnastics Team Comes Together to Win Silver
The team competition included entries from eleven countries, with Australia, Canada and England finishing in the medals. Canadian teammates Mariam Chamilova (Maple, ON), Demetra Mantcheva (Richmond, BC) and Alexandra Martincek (Toronto, ON) performed mostly solid routines with good degrees of difficulty. Canadian Shooters Make a Bronze Medal a Family Affair
The sister pair of Dorothy Ludwig (Langley, BC) and Lynda Hare (Edmonton, AB) captured a bronze medal together in the 10m Air Pistol (Pairs) competition on Tuesday at Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, giving Canada its third shooting medal of the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India. October 12, 2010
Canadian Badminton Queen Says Goodbye in Final Match at the Commonwealth Games
In her final international match for Canada, Anna Rice (Vancouver, BC) played on a centre court in front of a raucous crowd at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India and while the final result may not have been the way she had envisioned the moment, a loss to the tournament’s number one seed and world #3, Indian Saina Newhwel (7-21, 10-21), the spotlight was incredibly deserving for the 5-time Canadian Women’s and 2-time Pan American Badminton Champion. 1 Silver, 2 Bronze in track and field today at the Commonwealth Games
Three more medals were added to the Canadian track and field team’s total today in Delhi, India bringing the total to 14; at the last Games in 2006 the medal count was 13. Angela Whyte of Edmonton, AB won silver in the women’s 100 metre hurdles running a seasonal best performance of 12.98. In the women’s 200 metres Halifax NS’s Adrienne Power ran a tremendous final 60 metres to pick off a few runners and take the bronze in 23.52. Diane Cummins of Victoria, BC won bronze in a similar fashion in the 800 metres with a great effort down the home stretch to make up ground on a few runners and secure her medal in 2:00.13. Canada wins 4 medals on day 5 of track and field at the Commonwealth Games
Four more medals were added to the count today bringing the track and field total to 11 in Delhi. In the women’s long jump two athletes stood on the podium together as Alice Falaiye of Brampton, ON won the gold with 6.50 metres while Pickering’s Tabia Charles won bronze with 6.44 metres. This was Tabia’s second medal at these games earlier winning the triple jump bronze. In the high jump Nicole Forrester claimed gold by winning a jump off at 1.91 metres. October 10, 2010
Silver medal for weightlifter Marie-Ève Beauchemin-Nadeau
Weightlifter Marie-Ève Beauchemin-Nadeau won silver at the Delhi Commonwealth Games in the 75 kilos weight class. Hadiza Zakari of Nigeria won gold and Laishram Monika Devi of India took the bronze. October 9, 2010
Super Saturday for Canadian swimmers at Commonwealth Games
The Canadian swim team doubled its medal count to 10 to end the Games with five gold, a silver and four bronze. It is the first time Canada has won five swimming golds at the Commonwealth Games since 1990. On Saturday, Audrey Lacroix of Pont-Rouge, Que. took silver in the 200 butterfly, then helped Canada to bronze in the women’s 4X100 medley relay. October 9, 2010

Silver medal for Doris Jones in archery (compound bows)
Jones was ranked first after the qualification round and had already been through two rounds of knock-out elimination matches earlier in the week. In the quarter-final, she defeated Janette Hoswell of Wales 6-0, then held off a strong challenge from Cassie McCall of Australia, 7-3, to earn a berth in the final. October 9, 2010

Canadian weightlifters succeed in their medal quest at the Delhi Commonwealth Games
Christine Girard won a gold medal in the 69 kg category, setting a new record for the Commonwealth Games when she succeeded in lifting 105 kilograms in the snatch and 130 kilograms in the clean and jerk, for a total lift of 235 kilograms. The Rouyn-Noranda (Quebec) athlete now living in White Rock (British-Columbia) not only managed to improve her personal record but also broke two records previously established at the Commonwealth Games, in the snatch and in the total weight lifted. On the final day of competition for artistic gymnastics, Canadians competed in the individual apparatus finals and won a silver and two more bronze medals, bringing the total number won by Canada in artistic gymnastics to seven medals. October 8, 2010

A golden race for para-athlete Diane Roy in the 1500 meters
Diane Roy won the gold at the para 1500 m race in athletics at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. She won her race in 3:53.95, considerably ahead of her nearest rivals, Chineme Obeta of Nigeria, who won silver, and Anita Fordjour of Ghana, who won bronze.October 8, 2010
Medal streak continues in Delhi; track and field takes 3 more medals Jamie Adjetey-Nelson of Windsor, Ontario, Diane Roy of Sherbrooke, Quebec and Tabia Charles of Pickering, Ontario all earned medals today at the Commonwealth Games. Adjetey-Nelson and Roy both captured gold while Charles won bronze bringing the track and field total to 6 (5 gold and 1 bronze). October 8, 2010
Cycling Team Inspired By Each Other to Win Medals
On the last day of competition at the velodrome, Canada was looking to compete with the Australians at the track in cycling, and used each other as inspiration to win two bronze medals. At the last two individual opportunities for medals in track, Canadians had entries in both the women’s individual pursuit and the men’s scratch race. October 8, 2010
Bronze Medal for women's teams in archery (recurve bows)
In archery, recurve bow category (the more traditional shaped bows), the Canadian women's team of Marie-Pier BEAUDET (Quebec City, QC), Alana MacDOUGALL (Scarborough, ON) and Kateri VRAKKING (Etobicoke, ON ) fought as much against their opponents as against illness to grab a well-deserved bronze medal. Based on the individual scores tabulated during the team competition, eight Canadian gymnasts qualified to compete in individual apparatus finals and two won bronze in front of a well attended event at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium (I.G. Stadium) in Delhi. October 7, 2010

Canada doubled its total medal count today – soaring from 12 to 24 medals – thanks to a Canadian gold rush on Day 4 of the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games. Altogether, Canadian athletes won nine gold, one silver and two bronze medals.October 7, 2010
Canada's Women's Wrestling Team Dominates in Delhi
Women's freestyle wrestling is making its debut at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, and Canada showed why we are a nation to contend with. Day four in Delhi saw the start of the women’s freestyle event, with multiple qualifying matches ending in seconds with Canadians pinning their opponents. Canada has a depth in the sport which debuted at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Canada is among the leaders in women’s wrestling here in Delhi, along with the African nations and India. Double gold for Canada in synchro at Commonwealth Games
Marie-Pier Boudreau-Gagnon of Riviere-du-Loup, Que., won the gold medal in solo and combined forces with Chloe Isaac of Brossard, Que., for a second victory in duet on Thursday in synchronized swimming at the Commonwealth Games. With the victories, Canada remains undefeated in synchronized swimming at the Commonwealth Games with 14 gold medals in 14 events since 1986. October 7, 2010

The Canadian women's team of Camille BOUFFARD-DEMERS, Doris JONES and Ashley WALLACE won a silver medal in the team event, compound bows category, after a hard-fought final against England (229-232). October 7, 2010

Gold medal for Marilou Dozois-Prévost
Weightlifter Marilou Dozois-Prévost won Canada's second gold of the Games in the 53 kg category. Dozois-Prévost had her sights set on gold in Delhi, hoping to better the silver she earned in Melbourne in 2006. “It’s obvious that for any athlete, it’s hard to aim for anything but gold when you’ve already won the silver,” she said.October 6, 2010

Teamwork and Endurance Result in Two Bronze for Canada at the Velodrome
Two bronze medals came from Canada’s women’s track cycling team today in Delhi, with Edmonton's reigning world champion, Tara Whitten, in on both of them. Whitten won her first medal of the day in the 25km points race. October 6, 2010
Wilkinson returns to the pool after double bronze for Canada
Julia Wilkinson will return to the pool tomorrow morning to race the one lap, 50m backstroke on day 4 of the swimming events at the Commonwealth Games. Wilkinson won a bronze in the 100 backstroke last night. October 6, 2010
Double Bronze Gymnastics Medals for Canada in the Team Competitions
Led by team captain, Cynthia Lemieux-Guillemette, Canada's women's artistic gymnastics team has won bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Australia captured gold and England, silver. The results were a carbon copy of team results at the Commonwealth Games for the past four Games. The other four teammates include Kristin Klarenback, Emma Willis, Catherine Dion, and Gabrielle May. Originally national doubles finalists together in badminton as teenagers, Anna Rice and Alana Miller have taken different paths over the last decade in their sporting careers. The Commonwealth Games, launched Sunday in grand style with elements that moved from ancient to modern-day. More than 100 people from the Canadian delegation of 400 were led in by flag-bearer Ken Pereira, whose family hails from India. The Torontonian is a field hockey player. Canada’s top-ranked international squash player Alana Miller of Winnipeg announced today she will retire after the Commonwealth Games. Miller enjoyed an outstanding career highlighted by two appearances at the world team championships and helping Canada to team gold at the Pan Am Games in 2007. Legendary Canadian Shooter Pays Tribute to Indian Shooting Legend
The thought of shooting at Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range is emotional for Susan Nattrass, Canada's shooting legend. For the six-time Olympian and six-time Commonwealth Games veteran with three silver and three bronze medals on her resume, the shooting range brings her back to the 1969 World Championships where, as an 18-year old, she shot beside Dr. Singh, amongst other world and Olympic champions. Coaches of Canada’s Coach House officially opened today in Building 17 of the Athlete’s Village in Delhi. The facility is a combination work space and lounge for coaches and team managers. As athletes and coaches are now arriving from Canada and other staging areas around the world, it has been well received on day one. - September 28, 2010
