Canada Names Cyclist Tara Whitten as Closing Ceremony Flagbearer
Commonwealth Games Canada (CGC) and Cycling Canada are proud to announce
that cyclist and quadruple Games medallist, Tara Whitten (Edmonton,
AB), has been named Team Canada’s Flag Bearer for the closing
ceremony at the XIXth Commonwealth Games. The announcement was made

Whitten
Caps off Competition in Delhi with Gold
After three bronze medals in the track cycling competition at the
Commonwealth Games, Tara Whitten of Edmonton has crowned her competition
here in Delhi with a gold medal. On a day when the temperature on
the pavement was over 40 degrees, Whitten captured first place in
the final road event, the 29km individual time trial. For this event,
riders race individually against the clock, starting at one-minute

Jennifer
Abel caps great Commonwealth Games for Canadian divers with silver
The future of Canadian diving appears to be in secure hands with Jennifer
Abel of Laval, Que. Abel, 19, collected her third medal Wednesday
at the Commonwealth Games earning the silver on women’s three-metre
springboard. Sharleen Stratton of Australia won the gold medal with
376.00 points, Abel followed at 338.55 and Jaele Patrick of Australia
was third at 326.16. Abel, an Olympic team member in 2008, also won
gold this week on one-metre and three-metre synchro with Emilie Heymans

Games provide unique apprenticeship opportunity for female Canadian
coaches
Along with celebrating top athletic achievement, the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth
Games have been an extraordinary growth experience for two of Canada’s
most promising female coaches. Table Tennis coach, Junya Chen (Mississauga,
ON), and Athletics coach, Christine Laverty (Calgary, AB), have been
working with their respective national teams in Delhi through a partnership
between Commonwealth Games Canada and the Coaching Association of

Shooters Make a Bronze Medal a Family Affair
The sister pair of Dorothy Ludwig (Langley, BC) and Lynda Hare (Edmonton,
AB) captured a bronze medal together in the 10m Air Pistol (Pairs)
competition on Tuesday at Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, giving Canada
its third shooting medal of the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India.

Badminton Queen Says Goodbye in Final Match at the Commonwealth Games
In her final international match for Canada, Anna Rice (Vancouver,
BC) played on a centre court in front of a raucous crowd at the Commonwealth
Games in Delhi, India and while the final result may not have been
the way she had envisioned the moment, a loss to the tournament’s
number one seed and world #3, Indian Saina Newhwel (7-21, 10-21),
the spotlight was incredibly deserving for the 5-time Canadian Women’s

Silver, 2 Bronze in track and field today at the Commonwealth Games
Three more medals were added to the Canadian track and field team’s
total today in Delhi, India bringing the total to 14; at the last
Games in 2006 the medal count was 13. Angela Whyte of Edmonton, AB
won silver in the women’s 100 metre hurdles running a seasonal
best performance of 12.98. In the women’s 200 metres Halifax
NS’s Adrienne Power ran a tremendous final 60 metres to pick
off a few runners and take the bronze in 23.52. Diane Cummins of Victoria,
BC won bronze in a similar fashion in the 800 metres with a great
effort down the home stretch to make up ground on a few runners and

Canada
wins 4 medals on day 5 of track and field at the Commonwealth Games
Four more medals were added to the count today bringing the track
and field total to 11 in Delhi. In the women’s long jump two
athletes stood on the podium together as Alice Falaiye of Brampton,
ON won the gold with 6.50 metres while Pickering’s Tabia Charles
won bronze with 6.44 metres. This was Tabia’s second medal at
these games earlier winning the triple jump bronze. In the high jump
Nicole Forrester claimed gold by winning a jump off at 1.91 metres.

medal for weightlifter Marie-Ève Beauchemin-Nadeau
Weightlifter Marie-Ève Beauchemin-Nadeau won silver at the
Delhi Commonwealth Games in the 75 kilos weight class. Hadiza Zakari
of Nigeria won gold and Laishram Monika Devi of India took the bronze.

Saturday for Canadian swimmers at Commonwealth Games
The Canadian swim team doubled its medal count to 10 to end the Games
with five gold, a silver and four bronze. It is the first time Canada
has won five swimming golds at the Commonwealth Games since 1990.
On Saturday, Audrey Lacroix of Pont-Rouge, Que. took silver in the
200 butterfly, then helped Canada to bronze in the women’s 4X100

weightlifters succeed in their medal quest at the Delhi Commonwealth
Games
Christine Girard won a gold medal in the 69 kg category, setting a
new record for the Commonwealth Games when she succeeded in lifting
105 kilograms in the snatch and 130 kilograms in the clean and jerk,
for a total lift of 235 kilograms. The Rouyn-Noranda (Quebec) athlete
now living in White Rock (British-Columbia) not only managed to improve
her personal record but also broke two records previously established
at the Commonwealth Games, in the snatch and in the total weight lifted.

Diane Roy won the gold at the para 1500 m race in athletics at the
Commonwealth Games in Delhi. She won her race in 3:53.95, considerably

Women's Wrestling Team Dominates in Delhi
Women's freestyle wrestling is making its debut at the 2010 Commonwealth
Games, and Canada showed why we are a nation to contend with. Day
four in Delhi saw the start of the women’s freestyle event,
with multiple qualifying matches ending in seconds with Canadians
pinning their opponents. Canada has a depth in the sport which debuted
at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Canada is among the leaders in

Marie-Pier Boudreau-Gagnon of Riviere-du-Loup, Que., won the gold
medal in solo and combined forces with Chloe Isaac of Brossard, Que.,
for a second victory in duet on Thursday in synchronized swimming
at the Commonwealth Games. With the victories, Canada remains undefeated
in synchronized swimming at the Commonwealth Games with 14 gold medals

The Canadian women's team of Camille BOUFFARD-DEMERS, Doris JONES

Weightlifter Marilou Dozois-Prévost won Canada's second gold
of the Games in the 53 kg category. Dozois-Prévost had her
sights set on gold in Delhi, hoping to better the silver she earned

it’s hard to aim for anything but gold when you’ve already
