Strategic Coordination
To date CAAWS has taken the lead in the development of ACTive:
The Canadian Strategy
and Action Blueprint for Girls and Women through Physical Activity
and Sport. CAAWS and
various partners will investigate potential management structures
to facilitate and coordinate
multi-sectoral stakeholder development and implementation of physical
activity and sport
initiatives for girls and women in Canada. CAAWS will also develop
their own action plan to contribute to specific components of the
Strategy.
Evaluation
The Strategy Partners will be responsible for evaluating their
own initiatives annually over five
years (please see annual reporting form on page 21). After five
years, the overall impact of ACTive will be measured to determine
whether it has been effective in increasing the opportunities for
girls and women in physical activity and sport in Canada.
The measurement strategy will include:
- Partner identification of key performance indicators and baseline
data (2003)
- Gathering qualitative and quantitative data from the Strategy
Partners on the impacts of
their initiatives (annually)
- Monitoring existing census data and other annual data sources
(eg. Statistics Canada,
Sport Canada and the Canadian Fitness and Lifestyle Research Institute
data) (bi-annually)
- Identifying progress being made with partnerships and initiatives
(annually)
- Evaluating the overall impact of the strategy (2007)
Performance Measures
- increase the number of women and girls participating in all
levels of physical activity
and sport by 10%
- increase the number of women and girl coaches, officials and
administrators in
physical activity and sport by 25%
- increase the number of multi-sectoral collaborations around
physical activity and
sport by 25%
- increase media coverage and corporate sponsorship of physical
activity and sport for
girls and women by 25%
- increase the number of physical activity and sport programs
and services offered to women and girls from diverse cultural
and social backgrounds by 25%
Conclusion
The ACTive Strategy, as outlined above, provides a framework in
which to build your Action Plan based on the following key strategy
outcome areas:
- Participation Development
- Access to Facilities and Services
- Leadership and Decision Making
- Excellence
- Awareness
- Research
Developing Action Plans that address these outcome areas will
ensure we achieve the overall
Strategy goal of increasing physical activity and sport opportunities
for Canadian girls and women.
