Women in Sport Encouragement
Fund Provided by CAAWS with support from Sport Canada
In response to the continued interest from active girls
and women and the ongoing financial need within the sport
community, the Canadian Association for the Advancement
of Women and Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS) with
support from Sport Canada offers an annual grant opportunity
to individuals and/or organizations that meet the WISE

Involved
CAAWS is dedicated to encouraging girls and women to both
participate and lead in sport and physical activity. Women
on Boards: A Guide to Getting Involved, produced by CAAWS
in partnership with 2010 Legacies Now, provides both organizations
and women who are interested in serving on boards, with
practical resources to ensure strong representation and

Active & Free - Young women,
physical activity and tobacco
In an effort to promote physical activity as a viable
alternative to smoking, in 1994, CAAWS introduced the
resource Evening the Odds: Tobacco, physical activity,
and adolescent women. This resource provided parents,
coaches, and teachers with timely and tailored information
to assist them as they guided young women through adolescence
and helped them embrace a healthy lifestyle. Mindful of
the alarming rate of physical inactivity in young women,
who are the fastest growing segment of the population
taking up tobacco, CAAWS revised this worthwhile resource
and modernized it for today’s physical activity

Activity and Women Aged 55 to 70
Physical Activity and Women Aged 55 to 70 is a newly
funded three-year project (September 2005 – August
2008) focussed on increasing physical activity opportunities
for women (ages 55 – 70), with the following objectives:
- To identify barriers to physical activity for women
(ages 55 – 70).
- To identify solutions and best practices for increasing
physical activity for women (ages 55 – 70).
- To develop resources for multi-sectoral practitioners
and women (ages 55 – 70) that will assist in
increasing physical activity levels in older women.
- To increase awareness around the importance of
physical activity for women (ages 55 – 70) among
multi-sectoral stakeholders on a national basis.
- To evaluate the current and future impacts of the
project in increasing physical activity opportunities
for women (ages 55 – 70). More....
