A Big Sister spends one-on-one time with a little sister (ages 6-16) a few hours a week. The most important responsibility of a Big Sister is being able to positively impact a young girl's life, done through shared activities such as going for a walk, playing a sport, baking, laughing, going on a picnic, or just plain listening and talking.

Collaborative Community Coaching is a unique approach to recreation and sport for children and youth, teaching moral, social and physical skills in a balanced fashion. The mission of the program is to contribute to increasing the enthusiasm and sustained participation of children and youth in safe, values-based and child centred sport and recreation activities through support and implementation of the C3 approach.

Victoria Senior Secondary is involved in a collaborative research study with the University of Victoria designed to further explore female participation in physical education and provide students with a direct role in curriculum development.
Policy and practice implications from this important school-university partnership include the need for research support for teachers wanting to initiate change, the identification of feasible curriculum ideas to encourage female enrolment in physical education, and the benefits to researchers collaborating with teachers.

FUTURES FOR WOMEN IN SPORT - SYMPOSIUM

To encourage more young women to become leaders in sport, the University of Ottawa hosts a 2½ day Futures for Women in Sport - Symposium on career opportunities in sport.
Aware of the lack of women in leadership roles throughout the sport sector, particularly in the area of coaching, they decided to develop a career symposium that would promote the diverse range of opportunities available, network high school student-leaders with female leaders and professionals, and increase the profile of women in sport in the community.

Go Girls! Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds is mentoring program that provides adolescent girls with the information and support to make informed lifestyle choices while maintaining sensitivity toward their emotional, social and cultural issues. The program matches groups of girls in grades seven and eight with female university students who act as their mentors.
