Buy a Girl a Ball not a Doll

Girls continue to be inactive in Canada in appalling numbers. This Christmas take the first step towards getting that special girl in your life off the couch or away from the computer. Girls need our encouragement and support to get active again.

A recent study (1) shows that 64% of girls aged 12-19 continue to be physically inactive (compared with 48% of boys). And as many as 82% may not be active enough to meet international guidelines for optimal growth and development.

We have compiled a list of gift ideas. The CAAWS "Buy a Ball" Christmas Panel this year was comprised of Kristy (age 11), Kaleigh (age 14), and their mom (age 29 and holding). They came up with some great gift ideas and we have added a few of our own.
Fianlly, here a classic story about the great "Babe" Didrikson and dolls. She was only nineteen and already a championship basketball player and double gold and silver medalist at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics. A reporter said, "I'm told you also swim, shoot, ride, row, box, and play tennis, golf, basketball and football. Is there anything you don't play?" "Yeah," Babe replied, "dolls".
