Canada wins three team gold medals at Pan Am trampoline championships

BUENOS AIRES – Olympic silver medallist Jason Burnett of Toronto helped Canada to the gold medal in the men’s trampoline team competition on Saturday at the Pan American trampoline and tumbling championships.
Julie Warnock of Calgary also had a big day leading Canada to gold in both the women’s tumbling and women’s double mini trampoline team events.
In women’s tumbling, Canada with Warnock, Teja Durante and Catherine McNutt, both of Burlington, Ont., won the gold with Argentina second and Brazil third. In women’s double mini trampoline, Canada was tops again with Warnock, Gillian Bruce of Calgary and Chelsea Nerpio of Richmond, B.C. Brazil was second and Argentina third.
‘’Everything went really well for us in both events,’’ said Warnock, a world championships silver medallist on double mini trampoline last year. ‘’We did solid routines and overcame the pressure as the favourites. It’s always special to win as a team.’’
In men’s team trampoline, Burnett, Marty Myers of Toronto, David Sabourin of Gatineau, Que., and Carl Rom-Colthoff of Toronto took gold with Brazil second and Argentina third.
‘’We were expected to win and we came through,’’ said Burnett. ‘’My routine went O.K. I tried a harder routine than normal but it didn’t go exactly as planned.’’
In the men’s double mini trampoline team event, Brazil won gold with Canada second and Argentina third. The Canadian team members were Alexander Seifert and Colton Kent, both of Calgary, and Luke Friesen of Kelowna, B.C.
In women’s trampoline team competition, the U.S., were the winners with Argentina second and Brazil third. Canada had a fall and placed fourth with Nerpio, Rosannagh MacLennan and Samantha Sendel, both of Toronto and Sophie Leblanc of Quebec City.
Competition ends Sunday with the individual finals.
