Chantal Petitclerc inducted into the Terry Fox Hall of Fame
Canadian Paralympic Committee The Canadian Foundation for Physically Challenged Persons will induct Patrick Jarvis, Chantal Petitclerc and Peter Eriksson to the Terry Fox Hall of Fame today at a ceremony in Toronto. Patrick Jarvis, current President of the Canadian Paralympic Committee, will be recognized for a lifetime of outstanding work for athletes with a disability. Jarvis, a native of Calgary, has been nominated for a member-at-large position on the International Paralympic Committee Governing Board, a prestigious international posting. The former Paralympian also sits on the Vancouver 2010 Board of Director and represents the IPC on the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games Coordination Committee. Chantal Petitclerc is an outstanding Paralympian and winner of the Canadian Athlete of the Year Award. Over the course of her career, she has constantly pushed the barriers for athletes with a disability. Proud ambassador of the Paralympic Movement and its values, the Montreal-native regularly takes part in community events, increasing the awareness of people with a disability. Throughout her career, Petitclerc has overcome important challenges to win a total of 16 Paralympic medals, including five gold medals at the last Paralympic Summer Games in Athens. Earlier this year, Chantal received the Laureus Award, the most prestigious international honor for athletes. Peter Eriksson is recognized around the globe for his outstanding coaching career, including assisting world superstar Chantal Petitclerc to new heights. He now works for the US Athletics Paralympic Team. Peter Erikson has received the Coach of the Year honours at the latest Canadian Sports Awards. Eriksson started coaching athletes with a disability in 1983. The CPC is no stranger to the Terry Fox Hall of Fame. Many Athletes, Builders and Coaches have previously been inducted in the Terry Fox Hall of Fame, such as André Viger, Arnold Boldt, Eugene Reimer, Rick Hansen, Jeff Adams, Henry Wohler and Dr. Robert Steadward just to name a few.
