Canadians receive rigette honors

Agnes Jacks, Betty Shields, Carolyne Hudson and Lisa Brown recognized for ringette achievements

Helsinki, Finland - Ringette Canada is pleased to announce that the Finnish Ringette Association today bestowed honors upon four Canadians for their significant achievements in the sport of ringette. Receiving honors from the Finnish Ringette Association, who recognizes individuals on three levels, include: Agnes Jacks (gold), Betty Sheilds (silver), and Carolyne Hudson and Lisa Brown (bronze). All recipients received medals for their achievements and Agnes Jacks also received an honorary membership to the Finnish Ringette Association. Honors were presented in conjunction with the closing of the World Ringette Championships today in Helsinki, Finland.

"Agnes, Betty, Carolyne and Lisa have all made significant contributions to ringette in Canada and around the world," said Bill Hubbs, Executive Director of Ringette Canada. "Our sport is lucky to have such dedicated individuals and it is great to see their efforts recognized on an international level."

Agnes Jacks is the wife of the late Sam Jacks, the founder of the ringette in North Bay, Ontario in 1963. Over the years, Agnes has become an ambassador for the sport and is recognized by the Finnish Ringette Association for her unique contribution for ringette worldwide. When Agnes is not traveling to spread the word about ringette, she resides continues to reside in North Bay.

Ottawa's Betty Shields has been involved with ringette at every possible level. She is a former Vice-President, President and Past-President of Ringette Canada, as well as the founding director of the International Ringette Federation and its first President. The Finnish Ringette Association recognizes Betty for her outstanding and long lasting contribution to the development of international ringette.

Carolyne Hudson lives is Hull, Quebec and is also an active member of the ringette community. She is currently the president of the International Ringette Federation and has also held the position of Executive Director of Ringette Canada. The Finnish Ringette Association recognizes Carolyne for her remarkable achievements in international ringette.

Calgary's Lisa Brown is a past VP of Marketing for the International Ringette Federation and has also played ringette for 25 years. She has won three World Championships, eight National Championships, been an all-star eight times, and was the captain of the 1998 National team. The Finnish Ringette Association recognizes Lisa for her remarkable achievement in international ringette as an athlet
