AWARDS AND RECOGNITION
CAAWS’ Mothers in Motion to fund ten community programs
Ottawa, ON. . . The Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS) is pleased to announce the successful grant recipients for the Mothers in Motion program, made possible through a financial contribution from the Public Health Agency of Canada. Ten communities across Canada were selected to collaborate with CAAWS on the development and implementation of physical activity and/or sport program for mothers of low socioeconomic status (LSES). These communities will service as pilots to evaluate key research findings and recommendations stemming from the two-year project. Stéphanie Parker, CAAWS’ Marketing and Project Manager, was pleased to see the overwhelming response from so many different communities. “We were impressed by the number of responses we received to our Call for Applications, and the quality of applications received was exceptional. With over 50 applications, the Selection Committee was faced with many difficult decisions.” Parker added that “CAAWS is excited to partner with these organizations to help educate LSES mothers on the benefits and importance of physical activity in leading a healthy, active lifestyle.” Congratulations to these ten communities and projects selected for funding: Softball for Women and Girls Spirits of Burns Lake Burns Lake, BC Moms On the Move!
