FASTING

Can this really detoxify your body? What kind of toxins would I be trying to rid my body of with this kind of a fast? Do you think that fasting for 30 hours(thirty hour famine)as a 13 year old is healthy?

Fasting is a "method" that some religions, diets, and supplements proclaim will eliminate toxins from your body, cleanse your soul as well as your gut, and generally make you feel superhuman.

In fact, your liver and kidneys are the workhorses of the body that basically get rid of all the by products of your body's metabolism (these are sometimes alluded to as "toxins" by companies trying to sell you their detoxifying product). The work that the liver and kidneys do is what keeps your body working properly - for instance, when you eat protein your body gets rid of the nitrogen from the protein by washing it out through the kidneys with lots of water - in fact, eliminating a potential "toxin" to your body. Your liver metabolizes alcohol another potential toxin to your body.

Starving your body by fasting on herbal teas and supplementing with other products is not a great way to treat your body. Your body is your palace so treat it with care - eat good food, get regular exercise, and avoid tobacco smoke! This will help ensure that you eliminate many toxins form your environment.
