"Ringette is more of a team game (than hockey), I find, because you have to pass more and you're always together to back each other up in case you lose the ring," said Amy Desjardins, 14. "You have to communicate more."

There are many reasons why girls (and boys) choose this sport. It goes from loving the fast paced play and the competition to meeting new friends and travelling to tournaments. Ringette is a fairly young sport. Invented in 1964 by Sam Jacks in North Bay, Ontario there are now more thant 50,000 participants in Canada, more than 9,000 certified coaches and 2,866 registered referees. Not too bad for a sport that many people think is losing out to hockey.

So, this week we're featuring ringette! Those of you who already know a lot about ringette you might find out a few new things about this great sport and those of you who don't know a lot you'll find tons of information to get you hooked!

Scholarships
Agnes Jacks Scholarship Award - This award is "presented to ringette players, coaches, and/or officials who have demonstrated a strong academic performance and a commitment to the sport of ringette. Recipients receive a $1,000 Scholarship towards post-secondary education and also receive a Scholarship Award certificate recognizing their achievements."
