Canada ended the competition with two consecutive wins, following
opening losses to China (4-0) and Norway (2-1). Christine Sinclair,
16, scored two goals to pace the Canadian attack and even missed
a penalty against Denmark to finish the tournament as Canada's
top scorer with three goals. Canada's other goal came from Breanna
Boyd, her first for her country.
"The players are tired but they showed the right attitude today,"
said Canadian head coach Even Pellerud. "It was an even game but
we were the better team. We had good performances from our strikers.
We still made a few mistakes defensively but overall we were stable
and consistent."
It was Canada's first win over Denmark in three tries and capped
an impressive tournament for the young Canadian side. "This is
a world-class tournament with all the countries bringing their
best teams. The experience gained has been tremendous. In many
respects it has gone very well for us. It's been a good experience
for our young players to come here and play under these circumstances,"
said Pellerud.
