Grant-A-Week WINNER
Canada/USA Game at Water Polo World Cup

akasane designCAAWS was delighted to be able to offer a grant in support of the Women's Water Polo Olympic Qualifier.

It was a historic moment. Unlike men's water polo which has been an Olympic sport since the modern Games were begun in 1896, women's water polo will be in the Olympics for the first time in 2000 at Sydney, Australia.

In the game which CAAWS sponsored, Canada fell 6-5 to rival United States, the only team standing in its way of obtaining a berth.  (However 3 days later, Cora Campbell scored twice to lead the Canadian team to a 6-4 win over the US and earn their spot in the 2000 Olympics.)

As part of its contribution, CAAWS provided t-shirts for Team Canada with the "Syndey 2000 - a first for Women's Water Polo" theme.

CAAWS board member Shawnee Scatliff dropped the ceremonial opening ball of the game.
