Grant-A-Week WINNER
Apex Secondary School

akasane designApex Secondary School is an alternate school developed by a community task force.

In the first year of the program there were 25 students enrolled. After four years the enrollment has grown to 55.

After successfully completing their first year at APEX many students requested that they be able to return for another year, as this was the first positive school experience they had had in a long time. The staff advocated that the students could stay on if they took on a leadership role in the school.

Apex was created to meet the needs of students who struggle in the mainstream school system, those who drop out or "slip through the cracks."

As a result, the Recreation Leadership program was created. The APEX program consists of three parts: leadership, volunteer and recreation. The APEX recreation class is using the CAAWS Nike grant to help pay for activities such as rock climbing, river rafting and kayaking. Thanks for supporting our endevors.
