We both began rowing through separate
high school programs. After both discovering how much we loved
the sport we joined the local rowing club. (Victoria City Rowing)
It's here where we met each other for the first time.
Our coach decided to pair us off
in a double. Since then there has been no looking back. We instantly
became a perfect match. We quite often are taken for granted
at the start line of many races as our stature is generally
much smaller than our competition, but because we both know
that we must rely on each other the determination to pull hard
with every stroke is forefront in our minds.
This summer we were named to Team
BC and won 3 gold medals at the Western Canada Summer Games.
We competed a few weeks later at the Royal Canadian Henely where
we won a gold medal in our pair. From there we went to Montreal
and won the pair and the quad at the Canada Cup. After having
such a successful summer we have raised our goal to making the
Canadian Junior National Team in the spring of 2000.
We are aware that
this will only happen if we continue to train hard and focus
every day from now until the time trials. The acknowledgement
we have received from CAAWS and Nike has most definitely given
us the encouragement to continue the long haul. We would also
like to take this opportunity to encourage other young girls
who have an Olympic dream to stay focused and push themselves
as far as possible. There are times when it's very cold and
rainy out on the water and it would be so easy to skip practice,
but we know that paying our dues is what will get us to the
podium in the sport we love. The money we have been granted
will be saved to help pay our way to Croatia in 2000 as this
is where the Juniour World Rowing Competitions will be held.
(We're thinking positive!)
Thank you CAAWS
and Nike we are thrilled to accept this grant
Sincerely,
