Northern Prawns - Broomball
The St. Anthony & Area Junior
Girls Broomball League was initiated in 1993/94 by Madeline Ollerhead,
Manager, Linda Anstey, Coach, and Sandra Sinyard, Assistant Coach.
The purpose was to provide young females from age 12 to 19 with
the opportunity to participate in a sport that was both physical
and fun as well as give them the chance to compete on a provincial
championship level.

The
Northern Prawns was awarded team of the year, St. Anthony,
in 1997. Individual players have also received the local
Female Athlete of the Year award for five consecutive years.

During the past seven years,
the All Star Team (Northern Prawns) has won two provincial bronze,
two silver, and two gold medals. The team represented Newfoundland
and Labrador at the Atlantic Junior Broomball Championships in
1997 and won the Atlantic Gold Metal.
The Northern Prawns was awarded
team of the year, St. Anthony, in 1997. Individual players have
also received the local Female Athlete of the Year award for five
consecutive years. The Northern Prawns represented the province
of Newfoundland and Labrador at the National Junior Broomball
Championships at Leduc, Alberta in March, 1999 and was honored
with the Most Sportsman-Like Team award. The team will also represent
Newfoundland and Labrador at the Nationals again this year at
Embrun, Ontario from March 29 to April 1, 2000.
We are pleased to receive support
from the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women in
Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS) and Nike to help offset the
training and travel costs to attend the National Junior Broomball
Championships.
