Grant-A-Week WINNER
Carrie Gagné - Athletic Therapist

My name is Carrie Gagné and I am the Athletic
Therapist for the University of Winnipeg Wesmen Men's Volleyball
Team. I was honoured to be chosen for this grant and I would like
to tell you my story. I started to become interested in Athletic
Therapy my grade 12 year of high school. I had a wonderful Physical
Education teacher that got me involved by getting me a volunteer
position at a clinic to see if this was what I really wanted to
spend the rest of my life doing. It was and it still is.
I started school at the University of Winnipeg in
the fall of 2000 and I really got to see what Athletic Therapy
was all about. I started working with the Wesmen and really enjoyed
the team aspect of Athletic Therapy. I knew that this was for
me. Once the season was over, I started working with four Winnipeg
teams in order to increase my skills and my self-confidence. It
worked wonders because now, in my second year of Athletic Therapy
at the University of Winnipeg, I will be taking over the Men's
Volleyball Team as the Senior Therapist come Christmas.
I want to thank CAAWS/Nike Grant for giving me the
opportunity to tell my story. It hasn't been easy but the positive
times far outweigh the negative ones. This is what I want to do
with my life and am hoping to, one day, work with the Men's National
Volleyball Team. This grant will help me to buy a much needed
emergency travel kit for when I work go on the road with the team.
Thanks again.
