Grant-A-Week WINNER
Joelle Salter, Synchronized Swimming

Hello, I'm Joelle Salter. I'm 13 years old and in grade 8 at Henry Braun School in Regina, Saskatchewan.I started synchronized swimming when I was 9 years old and have swam for the past 4 years.akasane designI am involved in the recreation classes with the Regina Central Lions Synchronettes. I have my Synchro Star 6 and hope to get my Star 7 this year. When I started I was in Aqua Quest 3 and now I have my Aqua Quest 12. The things I love best about synchro are the coaches, the workouts and my synchro friends.

Last year I entered my first Provincial PAC-C Competition. I placed first in figures and was very proud of myself. My duet partner Morgan Bayda and I placed second. Last year I was given an award by our club for the most promising recreation athlete. I also like to pre-swim for synchro meets. I even got to pre-swim at Tri-Provincials in 2000.

This year I am swimming every Saturday morning for 2 hours and doing land-drill for an hour. I am doing a solo and really love it. My coach is Kristie Huys and she's great. I've had her as a coach before and was happy to get her again this year.

I am also involved in German dance and wrestling, but I love synchro the best. My role models are Lindsay and Nikki Cargill. They are sisters who swam with our club and are now both on National teams. They have great splits!

Thank you CAAWS/Nike Girls@Play for the grant. It will help me alot.
