Grant-A-Week WINNER
Roblin Figure Skating Club

The Roblin Figure Skating Club has been in existence for many years. The past number of years has seen a reduction in the number of participants involved in our club. Our goal this year for our new executive was to increase membership and decrease costs of our programs.

Our executive in still in shock every time we go to the rink. Our membership has more than doubled this year! We have approximately 37 members (mostly girls) and it seems like we get a new one (or more) every week!

We achieved our goals two ways. The first thing we did was to advertise our club. We put a huge ad in the paper and listed our registration in the Recreation News column several weeks beforehand. We also passed out flyers at our local elementary school. We followed this up by sending out a media release at the beginning of the season. The local paper came out and took photos. They printed a photo with our media release a week later. This brought us a lot of attention and we received a lot of phone calls asking about our CanSkate program.

Looking at our membership (ages 3-9), we realized that we have a very young club. Previously our club held sessions twice a week. Parents were concerned that this would be too much for the little ones. As well, we needed to cut our costs in about half in order to make this a more viable program. Most parents are willing to do fundraising, but only about one or two projects.

We are very pleased with how well this year has begun and hope that we will host a successful Carnival in the spring so that our kids show off their stuff.

Thank you to the CAAWS/Nike Grant-a-Week program for naming us a recipient. The funds will be put towards paying for ice fees and coaching fees.

Best Regards,
