2001 BC Dairy Foundation/Cariboo North Central regional Championships - skating

The 2001 BC Dairy Foundation/Cariboo North Central Regional Championships attracted 375 skaters from as far away as Prince Rupert in the West, McBride in the East, Fort St. John in the North and 100 Mile House in the South, over the weekend of February 16-18.

Competitors ranged in age and ability. Some skaters were there for the first time at the age of six, some were seasoned competitors in their twenties, with all age groups in between, represented. Although figure skating attracts predominantly girls, there were also a few boys too.

For the first time a banquet, dance and airbands competition for prizes was offered and it was a huge success! The skaters had lots of fun, the food was great and everyone was able to relax for the evening. As important as the competitive aspect of figure skating is, having fun is the most significant element and judging from the happy faces on that weekend, the Championships certainly provided everyone with both!

Congratulations to the Prince George Figure Skating Club and the Spruce City Skating Club for a job well done and thanks to the CAAWS/Nike girls@play program for their support.
