Grant-A-Week WINNER
Adventure for Girls

We are very excited to announce that our new program "Adventure for Girls" ran for the first time as a Town of Markham Recreation Services program.

Ten adventurous teens joined us for a six-week duration, meeting ever Monday evening and experienced a truly exciting program. Some activities included; Canoeing, Archery, Rock-Climbing, a Team building session on the low ropes course and a high adventure on the high element "the Vertical Playground".

We wanted to thank the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport along with Nike Canada for the $100 Grant. After a couple of ideas were thrown about, the girls decided to invest in white T-shirts and created Tye dye shirts with Adventure For Girls imprinted on the front. The girls were thrilled!

Madeline Brens and Lesley Edwards, program Leaders were ecstatic to have the opportunity to lead the program. "They liked how it was all girls as it was less intimidating…and more fun than if they were with boys," says Madeline. Lesley goes on to say "many of the girls said they'd definitely join again".

We have already planed a winter component to his program including activities such as rock climbing, winter hiking, orienteering, and a movie night pizza party!

Again, thank you for the opportunity! We're looking forward to see the girls out again!

Sincerely,
Shawn Hermans
