Grant-A-Week WINNER
Andrea and Sara - Beach Volleyball

We began playing beach volleyball four years ago. We originally played together on our high school indoor volleyball team. We were eventually introduced to the game of beach volleyball and immediately fell in love with it. On the beach it's just the two of us dealing with the elements of wind, sun, sand and rain… everything and anything. akasane designWe've learned to use these elements to our advantage, which is part of the reason we love this game so much.

For us, beach volleyball is about control. We win points by placing the ball where our opponents are not. What we lack in height (Andrea is 5.4" and Sara is 5.8") we make up in speed. We consider ball control, defense and serving to be our strongest assets.

We began our beach career playing on the beaches of Vancouver. This soon presented us with new opportunities and we've competed with the BC provincial Beach Team for the past three years. This afforded us the chance to travel, train and compete in various venues including Hermosa Beach and San Diego, California.

This past summer we also trained and participated in the Beach Nationals held in Wasaga Beach, Ontario. In 1998 we placed 3rd at the BC Provincials for U18 In 1999 we won the BC Provincials for U18 In 1999 we won the US Junior Nationals for U18 In 2000 we won the BC Provincials for U20 In 2000 we placed 2nd at the Canadian Nationals for U20

We have worked and trained very hard. We are very dedicated to the sport and have a great deal of trust and respect for each other. We are continuing to strive towards our goal of hoping to represent BC in the 2001 Canada Games this summer and we are going to do our utmost to bring home the gold!!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank CAAWS and Nike for the $100 grant. The money will be used to pay for some of our entrance fees for local tournaments over the coming summer. Thank you once again for your support. It is very much appreciated.
