Grant-A-Week WINNER
Viking Vixens - basketball

Viking Vixens Viking School is a K-12 school of around 300 students. Over the past two seasons I have seen rejuvenation in our girls basketball program.

There has been an increase in interest for the sport of basketball in our school. Three years ago Viking had one high school team and a junior high team. Our high school team was made up of few high school girls and girls from the junior high so they could compete.

Last year I had a high school team a grade 8-9 team and a grade 7 development team. Our grade 8/9 team finished 3rd in regional playoffs which is the highest level in junior high basketball.

This season I have added another program to our school. We have started a grade 5/6 league for girls to help promote the game of basketball in our community for years to come.

I plan to use the grant money to help reduce the expenses for our girls basketball program. Currently our teams are achieving at a high level. Our high school girls are competing very well with a young team. Our junior team is in first place in their league. Our grade 7's are working very well in their first year of basketball. Our grade 5/6's are just getting under way.

On behalf of my girls teams I would like to thank the grant a week program for their generosity in supporting our girls program at Viking School.
