Grant-A-Week WINNER
Girls' Winter Camping Trip
A group of female students at the Churchill Learning
Center in La Ronge, Saskatchewan - all novice skiers - decided
to try an overnight ski camping trip.
The girls had all identified in their personal program plans that
healthy lifestyles was something they wanted to learn more about
and to put into practice. The group had been out on some weekly
outings and all felt they were ready for a fun challenge.
To inspire the girls, we were lucky to have Denise Martin, come
in and speak about her ski trip to the North Pole. She showed
us her slides and also came along with us. Thus began our own
mini expedition. The trip was planned for Valentine's Day and
the weather was cool and snowy, but we all made it up to the summit
camping spot. The meals were prepared on the open campfire and
we enjoyed chocolate treats, games and lots of fun and laughter.
This trip will now be an annual
event including some of the original girls and new students who
want to meet the challenge!
