Chicks with Sticks- Hockey

<
akasane designIt is hard to believe that the majority of the women playing on the "Chicks with Sticks" tournament team had only started playing hockey 3 years ago, and here we were running our first ever hockey tournament! Six teams from lower Vancouver Island, British Columbia participated in the weekend's festivities. Teams ranged considerably in playing ability and age (13-50 years!).

Tournament organizers felt it was important to instill the "Chicks with Stick's" own love of the game, sportsmanship, and above all fun in the tournament. Consequently there were prizes after each game for such outstanding skills like: best impression of a Zamboni, best "Madonna look-a-like", and best trip over any painted line on the ice!

The best part for Tournament organizers was the comradery that was displayed by all participants. Teams hung around the arena between games and cheered each other on, while family members of the players encouraged Mom/Sister/Daughter.

The final between the Sidney Spitfires and the Cowichan Lakers was a great game for all spectators. In the end youth prevailed, and the Lakers won the Tournament in a fast paced final.

Thank you CAAWS and NIKE for the support of our event. This grant will be used to off-set tournament costs such as
