Kimberly Flood - Sprint Kayaking

akasane designMy name is Kimberly Flood and I am a Sprint Kayaker from Rothesay, New Brunswick. I am eighteen years old and have been paddling for approximately 9 years. I started paddling at the Kennebecasis Canoe Club in Rothesay and quickly discovered that it was a sport that I loved. I won my first competition at the Atlantic Peewee Championships in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia at age 12. I was also a member of the 1997 New Brunswick Canada Summer Games Canoe/Kayak Team where I won a Bronze medal in the Women's K1 6000M event. It was the first time that New Brunswick had medalled at the Canada Games in Canoe/Kayak. Since taking up the sport of Sprint Kayaking, I have competed both nationally and internationally, and experienced several top place finishes. Through this sport I have travelled to many different places and met a number of super people whom I continue to be friends with. However, my sporting background is not limited to Kayaking. I also played hockey for several years.

Whilst I was a student of Rothesay High School I was the Girl's Varsity Hockey Team captain. I also played Bantam Minor Hockey and assumed the role as Assistant Captain. Two years ago I transferred to Maskwa Aquatic Club in Halifax, Nova Scotia to train with my coach (as he had recently moved). I lived in Halifax during the competitive season and trained at home for the remainder of the year. This year I made the decision to permanently move to Halifax so that I could train with my coach full time, and alongside other high performance athletes. This move wasn't an easy one because it I had to leave my high school during my graduating year and transfer to another school. Regardless of the move, I continue to train hard while also coaching younger athletes at my club in the sport. I will be competing at the 2001 4FF" >
