MVP WINNER
Megan Imrie- Biathlon

I train and compete in the sport of biathlon. Biathlon is the combination of crosscountry skiing and shooting a .22 calibre rifle. It is one of the most challenging sports I know of. It takes tons of determination to take up biathlon because of the physical challenges it demands. I love biathlon because of these challenges which constantly push me to my limit.

I live in Falcon Lake, Manitoba, a very small town outside of
Winnipeg. I have been competing for recreation as part of the Falcon Snow Club for about 8 years. Last year I became a member of the Manitoba Provincial Team, and because of good results at the Canadian Nationals in 2001, I was selected to be on the 2010 training team. (Focusing on training to be in the 2010 Olympics.) I was really excited and have from then on been training daily. Almost every month I join 9 others from western Canada also chosen to the team, at training camps in Alberta.

Part of what is so exciting for me is the fact that I am closer than I ever have been to reaching my dream goal. My dream goal is to have a really good race in the 2010 Olympics. Other goals include being among the top 10 at the Canada Winter Games, competing in the World Youth Championships, and the North American Championships.

I am very happy to get the Girls@Play MVP Grant, as it will help me travel with my team to competitions and training camps in Canada and the United States. Every month there are team fees, travelling expenses, equipment costs and race entry fees. Not only will this grant allow me to compete in the sport I love, but it gets me one step closer to my ultimate goal.

Thank you,
CAAWS!

"Keeping up with biathlon training and competing is tough physically and financially. I'm greatful for the support I've recieved from CAAWS/Nike. These organizations are what make it possible for athletes like myself to
achieve their goals."

Thanks,
Megan
