MVP WINNER
Wiarton Ringette Association

clsc designIn the past, if you didn't play hockey or figure skate the winters really were cold and long since there are no movie theatres, no YMCA or fitness centre and no bowling alleys in Wiarton. Thankfully, that all changed last year when The Wiarton Ringette Association was formed.

Last year when ringette began it was the best feeling in the world to watch the girls carrying their ringette bags into the arena. The girls got their butts kicked almost every game but they didn't care. They celebrated everything like it was a Stanley Cup win ... when they got their first goal, when they finished a game that wasn't in the double digits, when they learned to set up plays...these things did more for their morale than words can say. The girls have had a blast learning the game and they are making great progress and learning some really solid skills.

Before they were content just to sit on the sidelines and cheer the boys during the hockey games, but not now. Before and after their games our girls crank up the tunes in the dressing room and have a really good time, and in doing so they develop friendships, a sense of good sportsmanship and team work. They cheer each other's accomplishments like no other team I have seen. I guess it is because they work so hard to catch up to teams from communities who have had ringette for 20 years or more.

These girls are having the time of their lives...thank you CAAWS and Nike for ensuring that they and other girls in our community will have more opportunities in the coming season.

Yours truly,
