MVP Winner
Shelaina Anderson
Figure Skater
Thank you Nike and CAAWS for picking
me for your MVP Grant!!! My name
is Shelaina Anderson , I am 11 years old and live in Edmonton
Alberta. I am
a competitive figure skater at the Ice Palace Figure Skating
Club at West
Edmonton Mall. I am coached by two talented people , Terri Gallant
and Ravi
Walia. I would like you to know how much I love to skate. I
am very dedicated to my skating. Unfortunately because I come
from a single parent family my Mom finds it difficult to keep
up with the costs. Figure Skating competitively is very expensive
because of coaching fees, ice time, competition fees, travelling
equipment etc. This is why I applied for the Nike/CAAWS MVP
Grant so that I can continue to train this summer and put the
money towards coaching fees.
I figure skate 8 hours per week and
train in dancing 11 hours per week, keeping a 96 average in
school. I encourage my classmates and friends to be active in
sports. I tell them it is fun and keeps you healthy and fit.
I try to lead by example. I am a very motivated person. My dream
is to become a National, International and Olympic Champion
for Canada by the age of 18. In my Dancing I have received numerous
high mark awards for my solos in Jazz, Tap and Lyrical performances.
I have four Dancer of the Year titles from the American Dance
Awards Competition. I have been offered to perform in Las Vegas,
Orlando, Boston and most recently New York, but due to my family's
situation I have not been able to go.
Figure Skating is a wonderful sport!!!
It has taught me so much and because of my situation , I am
very determined and disciplined to strive for excellence. I
know I have the ability and the right attitude to succeed in
this sport!!!
I am honored that Nike and CAAWS
have chosen me fortheir Girls@Play MVP Grant. I will continue
to set goals and stay active in the sport that I
love. Thank you Nike for helping me with my dreams!!!
