MVP Winner Update
Darleen Horne and the
Golddiggers Girls Softball Association

Hello :

Just wanted to give you an update on how our league is growing. This is our second season and we went from 48 girls to 72. We now have 3 squirt teams and 4 mite teams. We have our sights set on adding a Peewee team next season.

The Squirt Provincials were held in Stellarton, N.S. 2 weeks ago, and we sent 2 squirt teams. We decided it would be a great experience for the girls to play other teams outside our league. We didn't know how well we would do, but the girls were determined and played very well considering we were up against girls who were older and had played 5 - 7 years longer. We held our own - although not to bring home a medal, we took away very valuable lessons. This was a hugh learning opportunity for the girls, parents and coaches, alike. We are so proud of how the girls did. We have come a long way in just one year. And as one official there said - "We will be a force to reckon with next year". That was a feather in our caps.

This past weekend we entered a team in the Mite Provincials held in Cole Harbour, N.S. We won the Provincial Mite Gold! Thanks to all our sponsors and to the CAAWS/Nike MVP Grant - we had the money to do this and to buy uniforms for the teams that went. We even had comments from parents and coaches at the Squirt Provincials that we were the best looking team on the field - that goes a long way in building confidence in a 10 year old.

I've attached a picture of the girls with their Gold Medals and also our Float in this years Lawrencetown Days Parade with the CAAWS banner on the side.
