Activity (CAAWS) are pleased to announce the inaugural Girls@Play

Bonenfant, of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.

Bonenfant, 18, is an exemplary young women

women to get involved in sport. She has organized elementary school
curling programs, started a program for special Olympians, volunteered,
coached, lead practices and instructed several groups at the local
rink. Karen, who is also an excellent student, works at a part-time
job and volunteers in her community.
"We are encouraged with the quality
of nominations that came from across the country and are happy
to be able to recognize Karen for her outstanding contribution
to girls and women in sport." said Patricia Zeedick, President
of Nike Canada Ltd.
"I feel very honored to be the recipient
of this award," said Bonenfant. "I was surprised to receive an
award for something that I personally get rewarded for everyday.
I am able to look into the shining faces of proud athletes when
they achieve their goals. I’m overwhelmed by this award and never
thought I would be recognized for something I love to do so much."
Karen receives a trip for two to the
Canadian Sport Awards, held today in Toronto, in addition to a
Nike prize package valued at $500. A donation of Nike equipment
will also be made to a local sporting group in Sault Ste Marie
on behalf of Karen.
