Team Ontario completes Jr. Synchro Gold Medal Sweep

Does Canadian customs metal detectors detect Gold Medals? If so, Synchro Ontario's Junior Team will definitely light up the radar in a huge way upon their return from Cleveland Ohio and the 2008 US Open where they swept the Gold medals from the Junior Team Competition as well as the Duet and Solo events. With nine of the twelve members from Olympium Synchro, we are especially proud of the Junior Team Ontario's truly impressive accomplishment and would like to congratulate all of our athletes and coaches on an outstanding performance.

On the first day of competition, Ontario began by capturing 6 of the top 8 spots in figures with Annette Petersen placing 2nd, Candace Caskey 3rd, Rebecca Maule 4th, Carrie Mouck 6th, Rachel Kowalski 7th and Sam Kowalski 8th.

In the Junior Team Competition at the US Open in Cleveland, Team Ontario claimed the top spot and gold with an 85.667, beating out a field of a dozen of the top U.S. synchronized swimming clubs including teams representing the renowned Santa Clara Aquamaids and the Arizona Aqua Stars.

Team Ontario also captured gold medals in the solo and duet competition. The duet of Rebecca Maule and Rachel Kowalski had a gold medal performance, with teammates Victoria Mintz and Annette Petersen following in 4th. In solo Rebecca Maule captured a second gold medal, with duet partner Rachel Kowalski winning bronze.
