4. International Day Against Homophobia – May 17th

Great progress has been made in making sport and physical activity more welcoming to sexual and gender diversity. The LGBTQ community has been a hot topic in sport in recent months - with the NHL and the Canadian Women’s Hockey League partnering with You Can Play; Mark Tewksbury and Michaëll Jean being recognized as champions and allies by Jer’s Vision; and Brittney Griner, this year’s #1 WNBA draft pick, being out and hoping to impact the sport community with her story.

However, this year’s International Day Against Homophobia theme – Fight the Homophobia Web Virus – reminds us that we must not let homophobic comments, either on the playing field or on the Internet, be used to hurt and discriminate those perceived to be LGBTQ. For more information on the International Day and what you can do, click here. For more information on CAAWS’ Addressing Homophobia program, click here.

5. New Resource - Canadian Active After School Partnership Newsletter

CAASP recently launched a new monthly newsletter, ”3 to 6”, which will highlight the work of CAASP, and provide monthly insight into what is happening on ActiveAfterSchool.ca and in active after school programs in communities across the country.
