Quick Tips

When you leave your house, carry these items in a plastic bag or container:

  • money (including change for telephone calls)

  • a small first aid kit

  • paper and pen

  • your identification and your baby’s, too

  • important telephone numbers

  • tissues

  • diapering kit (make sure to include a changing pad) AND

  • nutritious snacks for you!

Nursing pads

During the first 4 to 6 weeks of breastfeeding, a woman’s breasts will be very full. In fact, they will be fuller than at any other time.

Nursing pads inside your bra will take up space after breastfeeding. As your breasts begin to fill again with milk, you can easily remove the nursing pads to make more room! If you find that your milk begins to flow when you hear a baby cry, you can also use nursing pads to help soak up milk from "leaking" breasts.
