 Caroline Brunet second in delayed Olympic kayaking final
A nightmare day ended in silver Sunday for Caroline Brunet. The world champion from Lac Beauport, Que., had to stew more than five hours when winds postponed the Olympic canoe-kayak schedule. When the competitors finally got to race in the 500-metre kayak final, she was upset by Italy's Josefa Idem Guerrini.-October 1, 2000

She waited four long years, but in the end Canada's eight-time world kayaking champion could do no better than she did in Atlanta.A silver medallist. Canada's women's Olympic K-4 (kayak fours) crew members savored some individual honors this weekend at the 2000 Canadian sprint canoe championships. Carrie Lightbound, veteran Marie-Josee Gibeau-Ouimet , and Kamini Jain were the winners in the K-1 200, K-1 500 and K-1 1,000 metre races respectively under mostly rainy conditions. - August 20, 2000

This time, there was no controversy when Canada announced it's flag-bearer for the Olympic opening ceremonies - Caroline Brunet of Lac-Beauport, Que. Federal sports minister Denis Coderre was "proud" that the announcement on Tuesday was done in French and English and Brunet was "thrilled" to accept the honour. August 17, 2000

With their Olympic berths locked up long ago, the country's three top paddlers fine-tuned their race routines at the Canadian whitewater canoe and kayak championships over the weekend, scoring some nifty gold medals along the way. - August 7, 2000
