Chrissy Redden
Defends her Title at Tim Hortons Nationals
OLD CHELSEA, Que.-- In a rain-free women's 32.5
kilometre race, Chrissy Redden of
Campbellville, Ont., combined her running and cycling skills to successfully defend her
title.
Redden blasted out of the gates to a three-minute lead after the first of four laps and
finished in 2:02:30.60. Amber Chorney of Edmonton was second in 2:10:51.24 and Trish
Sinclair of Victoria third in 2:12:06.90.
"There were sections that were so much faster to run than ride," said Redden,
enjoying her best ever season highlighted by a silver at a World Cup race and seventh at
the world championships. "I think a lot of girls were taken off guard.
After the first lap I just kept it safe. I didn't want to crash."
There are three women's spots on the Olympic team and three had met the criteria so no
selections were necessary Sunday. Redden, Olympic silver medallist Alison Sydor of
Victoria who didn't compete here this weekend and Leslie Tomlinson of Victoria, who double
flatted on the first lap and didn't finish, officially earn their Sydney tickets.
