Tough
day in Sydney
Canadian Press
Sydney It was a tough
day at the Olympics on Thursday for Canadian judoka Kimberly
Ribble and swimmer Craig Hutchison.
Ribble, from Hamilton, Ont., suffered a possible fracture
of the right foot and sprained knee in her bout with Cuban Diadenys Luna. The Cuban, on
the ground, launched an attack at the standing Canadian, who hurt her knee when she lost
her balance.
Ribble was to undergo X-rays to determine the extent of
the damage. She was forced to withdraw from the competition.
The 27-year-old Ribble is no stranger to injury woes. She
hurt her knee before the Pan Am Games last year and surgery kept her out of competition
until the Olympic qualifiers.
Hutchison, from Pointe-Claire, Que., wasn't hurt although
his pride was no doubt a bit bruised following a false start that knocked him out of the
50-metre freestyle heats
