Golden Paralympics finish
Canada capped the Paralympic Games yesterday with gold medals in goalball and the
wheelchair marathon. Canada finished fifth in the medal standings with 96 -- 38 gold, 33
silver and 25 bronze. Host Australia finished on top of the medal table with 149, followed
by Britain with 131, the United States at 109 and Spain with 107. - October 30 |
Jessica Sloan is on top of the World, down under
The 17-year-old Calgary swimmer won six gold medals in the Paralympic Games, which wrapped
up on Sunday. With each gold, she set a world record. "I came into the
meet with high expectations, but fulfilling them is a really good feeling," said

Canada wins wheelchair basketball gold
Canada won its third straight Paralympic gold medal in women's wheelchair basketball
Friday with a 46-27 win over Australia. The Canadians won gold in Barcelona in 1992
and Atlanta in 1996. Six of these Canadian team members were in Barcelona and all but two
were in Atlanta. Canada led by 10 point at the half, playing before an announced

Victory wiped out by accident
Canadian Paralympic officials expect to learn today whether a gold medal taken away from
wheelchair racer Chantal Petitclerc will be reinstated by the International Court of

travels to Sydney with 5-month-old daughter
Jo-Anne Burleigh, an assistant coach with the Womens Paralympic Basketball Team, is
a new mom, and her husband, James Treuer, a member of the Canadian Men's Wheelchair
Basketball team. Thanks to CAAWS and a number of other organizations, 5 month-old

Super finish at the Superdome
The Canadian women's wheelchair basketball team lost a close game to the Australians
Sunday at the Sydney SuperDome to wrap up their 5 game series at the Paralympic venue.
Canada overcame a 14 point Australian lead to go up by 1 point with less than a minute

Wheelchair basketball team drops game to Aussies
Canada's women's national wheelchair basketball team continued their Australian tour
Friday at the Sydney SuperDome with an interesting 34-43 loss to their Aussie hosts. The
Canadians were able to try a number of different lineup combinations as well as give
everyone significant minutes yet were still in a position to win the game in the late
