Hayley Wickenheiser will get her chance to become the first Canadian woman to win a medal
at both the Winter and Summer Olympics. The Shaunavon, Sask., native, who won a silver
medal in hockey at the 1998 Nagano Winter Games, was named to the women's Olympic softball

Volleyball team misses Olympic berth
The Italian women's volleyball team secured a berth in the Olympic Games with a 3-0
(25-12, 25-19, 25-16) win over Canada Saturday. The top-four teams advance to the Games
with one berth guaranteed for an Asian country. The Canadians, the lowest-seeded team in
the eight-country competition at 14th in the world, are 0-6 and have no chance of going to

Volleyball team loses to Argentina
Canada lost 3-2 to Argentina (25-20, 28-30, 25-22, 22-25, 15-13) after two missed serves
near the end of the final set cost them what would have been their first match win of the
tournament. They are 0-5 with two matches remaining and out of contention for a Games
berth. The competition was the last chance for Canada to qualify for the Olympics in

The Canadian women's volleyball team dropped its first match of the final Olympic
qualification tournament losing 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-13) to top-seeded China. The
tournament is Canada's last chance to qualify for the Olympic Games in Sydney. Of the
