Joanne Malar wins second gold medal

 LOS ANGELES  -- Joanne Malar of Hamilton and Morgan Knabe of Edmonton each registered a second gold medal Sunday at the Janet Evans International swimming competition.

Mike Mintenko of Moose Jaw, Sask., broke the Canadian record in the men's 100-metre butterfly for the gold medal.

 Malar, the 400 individual medley winner Saturday, placed first in the 200 IM, clocking a solid 2:15.12.

 Knabe completed a breaststroke sweep by winning the 100-metre race in 1:03.58.

 In the men's 200 individual medley, Olympic champion Attila Czene of Hungary was the victor in 2:02.54, with double Olympic bronze medallist Curtis Myden of Calgary second in 2:04.45.

 Danielle Bell of Victoria and Karley Stutzel, both of Victoria, were second and third in the women's 1,500 freestyle while Chris Renaud of Calgary was third in the men's 100 backstroke with Mark Versfeld of Vancouver seventh.
