Injury forces Katie Anderson out of hurdles CBC SPORTS ONLINE - Canada's medal hopes
in the women's 100m hurdles crashed today as Katie Anderson
collapsed in her semi-final heat with an apparent hamstring
injury.
Anderson, who got off to a strong start and cruised to
the finish in a time of 12.82 seconds in her first heat, held the fourth fastest
qualifying time overall.
But after a strong start in the second heat, the Toronto
resident pulled up in obvious pain before the ninth hurdle and fell awkwardly to the
track, extending her injured leg.
"That leg extension did her no good at all,"
said CBC track analyst Geoff Gowan. "It just simply magnified what was already
happening."
Gowan and play-by-play commentator Don Wittman pointed
out that Anderson appeared to have a slight hamstring problem in the warm-up to the race.
"She may have had a few problems when she was
warming up," Wittman said. "But she had stated that she felt very good. She felt
confident that she could qualify for the final."
