SYDNEY, Australia  -- Canada made sure to hold onto this one, routing Kazakstan 10-3 Monday for its first Olympic victory after two very different ties.

 The Canadians rallied late to tie Russia in their opener at the Sydney Games. Then they gave up three goals to the United States in the final two minutes of an 8-8 tie at the Ryde Aquatic Leisure Center.

 Waneek Horn-Miller led four players with two goals each for Canada, which moved to 1-0-2 in the six-team tournament.

 Goalie Josee Marsolais made six saves in the opening half to keep Kazakstan winless through three games.

 The Canadians shined on offense and defense. They led 6-1 at the half, and held Kazakstan's Olga Lechshuk, one of the tournament's leading scorers with four goals, without a shot.

 The victory tied Canada with Australia and Netherlands with four points in the standings. The United States led the rankings with five points.

 Canada meets the Netherlands on Tuesday, while Kazakstan next plays Russia.
