Bobsleigh Team Selected

Calgary -With only 105 days to go before the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, the 28 athletes selected for Canada's 2001/2002 Men's and Women's Bobsleigh Teams were presented today at a news conference in the Ice House at Canada Olympic Park - the world's most advanced indoor, year-round training facility for bobsleigh, luge and skeleton.

The women's tour wraps up in Calgary with the Visa Women's World Cups on December 15 and 16.

The members of the Women's National Bobsleigh Team are: Pilots: Christine Fraser, 34, of Calgary Christina Smith, 32, of Calgary Brakemen: Suzanne Gavine-Hlady, 26, of Barrie, ON Paula McKenzie, 31, of Calgary Teresa Schlachter, 37, of Pincher Creek, AB Lesa Stringer, 33, North Battleford, SK Ivo Ferriani leads the coaching squad in his third year with the Canadian bobsleigh program.

Sigi Feuser, a pioneer in Canadian women's bobsleigh, coaches the women's team. Visa Canada is the proud title sponsor of our Men's and Women's National Bobsleigh Teams, all the way to the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. Visa is also the title sponsor of all three major bobsleigh events in Calgary this season: the Visa Men's World Cup in November; the Visa Women's World Cup in December; and the Visa Canadian Bobsleigh Championships in March 2002.

Visa Canada recognizes personal athletic achievements each season with the Visa Athlete Performance Awards.
