Whyte Second in Disabled Biathlon
World Cup in Mouthe France
Shauna WHYTE of Hinton was second in the women's
5 x 2.5 km sit ski race. Shauna was 0:20.8 behind Svitlana
TRYFONOVA of Ukraine. TRYFONOVA has been "the one to
beat" this season in World and Europa Cup races. Ragnhild
Myklebust of Norway, previously undefeated women's sit skier
since 1984, was in fifth place. This is a major upset.
Head Coach, Kaspar Wirz of Saskatoon, said
"both skiers were happy with the results. Shauna shot
and skied very well and Brian had to ski very hard to place."
This Brian's second year in biathlon.
The next race is January 27. Canada will have
4 skiers in the long distance race.
The skiers are preparing for the Paralympics
at Salt Lake City March 7-16. The team representing Canada
at the Paralympics was announced January 24 in Ottawa. The
Nordic Team consists of Shauna Whyte of Hinton, Brian McKeever
of Canmore guided by his brother Robin and Colette Bourgonje
of Saskatoon.
