women's wrestling on Monday. Verbeek of Beamsville, Ont., is guaranteed
at least a silver medal after defeating Sweden's Ida-Theres Karlsson
3-1 in the semifinals of the 55-kilogram division in Athens earlier

Verbeek advances to wrestling semis; Nordhagen out
Canadian wrestler Tonya Verbeek moved on to the semifinals after
winning both her matches on Sunday, while teamate Christine Nordhagen's
long journey to the Olympics came to an abupt end.
Verbeek, of Beamsville, Ont., defeated American Tela O'Donnell and
Russia's Olga Smirnova in the elimination pool of the 55-kilogram
class at the Ano Liossia Olympic Hall in Athens. She'll take on
Sweden's Ida-Theres Karlsson in Monday's semifinal. - August 22,

There could be a medal bonanza for Canada when women's freestyle
wrestling makes its Olympic debut in Athens. "We have a very
strong team," said Todd Hinds, the Canadian women's assistant
