Bernier named assistant
chef de mission for 2006
Former Olympic diver Sylvie Bernier has been named
the assistant chef de mission for Canada's team at the 2006 Winter
Olympics in Turin.
"I hope my experience and background will be an asset to the
team in the next 22 months leading up to the Games," she said
in a release Wednesday.
Bernier, a native of Ste-Foy, Que., won Canada's first-ever gold
medal in diving in the three-metre springboard event at the 1984
Olympics in Los Angeles.
Bernier also won a silver medal at the 1982 Commonwealth Games
and a bronze at the 1983 Pan Am Games during her career.
She was named a member of the Order of Canada in 1985 and is in
Canada's Sports Hall of Fame.
Shane Pearsall is Canada's chef de mission for the Turin Games.
