St-Gelais skates to
silver - on her 20th birthday
It was the best birthday present Marianne St-Gelais of Roberval,
Que., could have given herself: Silver.
On her 20th birthday on Wednesday, St-Gelais finished
second in the women's 500m short track speed-skating final behind
China's Wang Meng.
Wang, the defending champion in the distance, dominated
the race, finishing almost seven-tenths of a second ahead of the
Canadian in 43.048 seconds.
St-Gelais finished her race in 43.804 seconds to
hold off Italy's Arianna Fontana, who earned bronze in 43.804.
Edmonton's Jessica Gregg finished fourth in 44.204
seconds while Kalyna Roberge of St-Etienne de Lauzon, Que., finished
second in the 'B' final for an overall finish of sixth.
