Newcomer On the Move 2011-2014

About the Project

With new funding from Citizenship and Immigration Canada until 2014, CAAWS will build on the 2009-2011 Newcomer On the Move project by sustaining existing programs in Ontario, and adding a total of eight new community program hosts across the country. Newcomer On the Move is designed to increase capacity at the community and provincial levels to address disparities in the availability and utilization of healthy living programs for newcomer girls and young women (ages 9-18).

The Newcomer On the Move project is built upon CAAWS’ proven On the Move concept, which advocates for fun-filled, female-only programs where participants can build their skills and self-confidence. Community-based On the Move programs will provide participants with opportunities to try new sports and physical activities, visit and become familiar with community physical activity facilities and service providers, learn healthy living skills, and build a foundation for life-long healthy living.
