CAAWS is pleased to launch a call for members for its new Impact Research Committee.
Through this committee, CAAWS has committed to creating and supporting a diverse, multidisciplinary, and relevant research agenda related to our vision and mission. This committee will help inform the organization’s insight, knowledge mobilization efforts, and other research deliverables including advising in the broad areas of gender equity for women in sport participation and/or sport leadership.
The inaugural co-chairs of the committee are Dr. Cheri Bradish and Dr. Catherine Sabiston. Dr. Bradish is the Director of Ryerson University and MLSE LaunchPad’s Future of Sport Lab and former Loretta Rogers Research Chair in Sport Marketing with the Ted Rogers School of Management. Dr. Sabiston is a professor and Canada Research Chair in Physical Activity and Mental Health at the University of Toronto.
The intent of the Impact Research Committee is as follows:
- Identify new opportunities for collaborations, research and knowledge transfer to advance the position of women and girls in sport, nationally and globally;
- Identify and address current issues affecting the field and CAAWS’ vision and mission;
- Provide ongoing support to CAAWS as subject matter experts and spokespersons; and
- Help establish a beneficial network between other scholarly/university programs, researchers.
As such, CAAWS is circulating this call for Members of a to-be-formed Impact Research Committee.
The members of the Impact Research Committee must be able to demonstrate a rigorous and relevant scholarship profile whose work complements the vision and mission of CAAWS, and ideally possess the following characteristics:
- A broad specialization and demonstrated commitment to girls and/or women in sport and/or to equity, diversity and inclusion;
- Experience with applied research and/or knowledge transfer activities in the area, including funding, with a variety of public-private partners;
- Research focus on leadership, organizational behavior and change management, and impact assessment theory and/or practice; and
- An acknowledged diversity of perspective and years of experience are encouraged to apply.
In addition to the noted qualifications, the following asset criteria may be considered:
- National and/or international recognition in the applicant’s field of expertise;
- Applicable academic and/or professional credentials; and
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively on a council, committee or board.
Submit an application package by September 23, 2019 by 5:00 PM Eastern.

- Cover letter stating the reasons for the application;
- Brief CV outlining key contributions related to gender equity in sport participation and/or sport leadership; and
- Links to any relevant social media profiles and/or activities.
In preparing a submission, applicants should provide a clear statement of their reason for the application and ensure that they provide enough information to allow the assessor to give the application full consideration.
Application and Selection Process:
Applications will be vetted internally by CAAWS for consideration. Successful applicants will be notified by October 7, 2019 of the result of their submission.
All information submitted regarding an application will be kept confidential. CAAWS will therefore acknowledge receipt of application but will not respond to applicants about the status of their application.
