CAAWS is excited to announce the launch of new tools for the Canadian sport and physical activity sector.
Two targeted Gender Equity Assessment Tools are available to help community sport and physical activity providers, as well as sport clubs and provincial/territorial sport organizations, take action to actively engage women and girls as participants and leaders throughout their organization.
The Assessment Tools were developed as part of a CAAWS project funded by the Government of Ontario in 2013-2015. The project builds on the CAAWS publication “Actively Engaging Women and Girls: Addressing the Psycho-Social Factors”, developed as a supplement to the Canadian Sport for Life (CS4L) foundation documents. The Assessment Tools were developed by Judy Sutcliffe of The Sutcliffe Group Incorporated, a consulting firm with experience at the community, provincial and national levels of sport in Canada. Sutcliffe said “Many organizations are interested in increasing gender equity. These tools help organizations assess current levels of gender equity, then set goals for improvement.” Karin Lofstrom, CAAWS’ Executive Director, said “Some organizations provide female-only programs and then think their gender equity work is done. By focusing on programming, policy, leadership and environment, the Assessment Tools challenge organizations to examine gender equity across all aspects of their organization.”
